The name Serapi is driven from an area in north west of Iran in Azerbaijan region. Majority of the rugs which were made pre 1900 were in larger sizes mainly for aristocrat and mansion houses often in simple bold geometric designs with a large Medallion and did not particularly require very fine knotting. The simplicity in design gives a more naive and special beauty to such rugs which are easy to furnish and are sought after by designers . The used Very goods quality hand-spun wool in vegetable dyes to enhance the Sheen and durability of the wool in the rugs. Today we are making similar designs, using hand spun wool and mainly vegetable dyes in more smaller practical sizes for today’s interior in the same traditional method by good Indian weavers in Varanasi area.
